Safety & insurance

The Lethbridge Lacrosse Association (LLA) is committed to player safety and ensuring all participants have access to proper injury protocols, insurance coverage, and concussion awareness.

We encourage players, parents, coaches, and officials to review the information below to understand injury management, return-to-play protocols, and insurance policies.

📌 In Case of Injury: If a player is injured during a game or practice, their coach or team manager should be notified immediately, and appropriate steps should be taken based on severity.

📌 Emergency Medical Services: If an injury is severe, call 911 immediately.

Concussion Awareness & Injury Policy

Concussions are a serious concern in all sports, including lacrosse. LLA follows the Lacrosse Canada Concussion Management Guidelines: Download

Signs of a Concussion

Headache or dizziness
Nausea or vomiting
Confusion or difficulty concentrating
Blurred vision or sensitivity to light
Balance problems or unsteady movement
Mood or behavior changes

📌 If a player shows ANY signs of a concussion, they should be removed from play immediately and evaluated by a medical professional.

Return-to-Play Protocol

Immediate Removal - Any player suspected of a concussion must be removed from play and may not return the same day.
Medical Assessment - A doctor must evaluate the player before they can resume any physical activity.
Step-by-Step Recovery - Players must follow a gradual return-to-play process, monitored by a coach or medical professional.
Medical Clearance Required - A doctor’s note is required before the player can return to full-contact practices or games.

Injury Reporting & Insurance Coverage

LLA players are covered under the Alberta Lacrosse Association’s (ALA) insurance policy, which provides medical coverage for injuries sustained during games, practices, and sanctioned team events.

📌 To file an injury claim:

Report the injury to your team coach or manager immediately.
Complete an Injury Report Form - This must be submitted to LLA within 48 hours of the injury.
Submit an Insurance Claim - If medical treatment is required, submit an insurance claim through the  LLA Program Director.
